What are we doing ?
In Hemodyn we are developing patient specific pre-surgical planning platform for the congenital heart defect (CHD) operations.
Why are we doing this ?
Approximately 1 in 100 children are born with a clinically significant CHD. These patients have congenital malformations in their hearts or in the grand arteries that originate from the heart that prevent normal blood distribution to the vital organs. Surgical operations aim to restore the normal or close-to-normal blood flow in the heart or the main vasculature by reconstructing the malformed heart or vessels.
Surgeons can follow various different configurations in their surgeries for one patient. Every one of these strategies may have different result that can effect the blood flow significantly.
We are providing surgeons an opportunity to implement the vessel configurations in their minds on the pre-surgical planning platform and compare the hemodynamic performance of each configuration so that the surgeon can choose the best one to implement during the real operation. This methodology can prevent re-operations that can safe lives and reduce surgery costs.
